CoreTrustSeal
This chapter will cover:
- CoreTrustSeal requirements
- CoreTrustSeal mapping to ALCOA
Click here for a reminder on the CoreTrustSeal explanation.
CoreTrustSeal (CTS) has a set of 16 requirements that should be fulfilled by a Trusted Digital Repository (TDR). The archive function within an organisation that is tasked with long-term Data Integrity of GxP content is in effect acting as a Trusted Digital Repository for that organisation.
All of the requirements of CTS will apply to some extent or another. For example, an archive function within an organisation will need to have all the Organisational aspects of CTS in place. This includes Mission & Scope (R01), Rights Management (R02), Continuity of Service (R03), Legal & Ethical (R04), Governance & Resources (R05) and Expertise & Guidance (R06). Likewise, the archive function should be properly supported by IT services and security infrastructure. This includes Technical Infrastructure (R15) and Security (R16). The CTS guidelines help an organisation assess
whether they have the Organisational and Information Technology & Security support in place that will likely be necessary for successful long-term Data Integrity.
The rest of CTS focusses on the specifics of Digital Object Management. The requirements in this area are directly aligned with the ALCOA principles and the digital preservation requirements identified in Section 5.
The table below maps each CTS requirement for Digital Object Management to the corresponding ALCOA principles that it is most relevant to. As can be seen in the table, many of the CTS requirements support more than one ALCOA principle. All the CTS requirements need to be followed in order to support all aspects of ALCOA.
The CTS guidance document has additional detail on what should be in place for each CTS requirement.
